Child ADHD/ASD Assessments under Right To Choose Legislation (under the age of 16 years old)
What is Right to Choose?
There is a scheme called Right to Choose Legislation where patients can have the assessment under the NHS undertaken by a private company.
Please note that many private clinics will initiate medication but then request that further prescriptions and monitoring are accessed from the GP.
As a practice, we have carefully considered these requests and whilst we can refer you to your chosen provider, unfortunately, we cannot support the prescribing and monitoring of medications from private clinics. There are several reasons for this:
General practice does not currently have the capacity to meet this additional demand from the private sector.
It is challenging for us to be assured of the quality and governance aspects of private clinics.
These are specialist medications which need to be shared between GPs and specialists, and there is no guarantee of enduring specialist care within the private sector.

How to Use the Right to Choose Scheme for Autism Assessments in the UK (2025) – Special Needs Resources Directory
You will need to choose which provider you wish for us to refer you to. Each provider has their own application form/ questionnaire/ required information, this all needs to be completed and submitted to us at the surgery. You can drop in the completed forms at reception or email them to ddicb.admin.friendlyfamily@nhs.net. Please enter ‘Right to choose referral’ as the subject. If we haven’t got all the information required by the private provider the referral will be rejected.
